Who voiced the retired racing champion Doc Hudson in Pixar’s Cars?

Paul Newman voiced the retired racing champion Doc Hudson in Pixar’s Cars.

Doc Hudson is a 1951 Hudson Hornet who once competed as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. In Radiator Springs, he serves as the town’s physician and initially hides his racing past from Lightning McQueen.

Newman brought a seasoned, understated quality to the character, fitting Doc’s history as an older champion who has become wary of fame. The role was Newman’s final major feature-film voice performance, and his association with racing also made the casting especially fitting.

Newman was a celebrated actor, director, philanthropist, and real-life racing enthusiast. He competed professionally and co-founded Newman’s Own, whose profits supported charitable causes. He died in 2008, two years after Cars was released.
