Who voiced Mater in Pixar’s Cars films?

Larry the Cable Guy voiced Mater in Pixar’s Cars films.

Mater is a rusty tow truck from Radiator Springs and Lightning McQueen’s loyal best friend. His comic personality, Southern-style speech, exaggerated stories, and sincere optimism make him one of the franchise’s central characters. The role was performed by American comedian and actor Daniel Lawrence Whitney, whose stage name is Larry the Cable Guy.

Mater’s first major appearance is in Cars, where he helps McQueen understand the community he initially wants to leave behind. He returns in Cars 2, taking a much larger role in the international spy plot, and appears again in Cars 3. The character also headlines the television series Cars on the Road.

The voice actor’s legal name is sometimes mistaken for a separate performer’s name. Larry the Cable Guy is Whitney’s professional name, so it is the canonical answer used for the films’ credits and reference material.
