Who sings with Beyoncé on the 2003 hit “Crazy in Love”?

The story behind the answer

Jay-Z sings with Beyoncé on the 2003 hit “Crazy in Love.”

The song was released as the lead single from Beyoncé’s debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. Produced by Rich Harrison and Beyoncé, it prominently samples the horn riff from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).” Jay-Z contributes a rap verse, giving the track a clear hip-hop component alongside its pop and R&B production.

“Crazy in Love” became Beyoncé’s first number-one single as a solo artist in the United States. It also topped charts in several other countries and won Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2004. Its music video featured choreographed dancing and became closely associated with her early solo image.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé later married in 2008. Their professional collaborations continued across multiple songs and eventually included the joint album Everything Is Love, released in 2018 under the name The Carters.
