Beyoncé released her second solo studio album, B’Day, in 2006.
Columbia Records issued B’Day on September 4, 2006, Beyoncé’s 25th birthday. The title is a play on “birthday” and “B,” referring to Beyoncé. The album followed her 2003 debut, Dangerously in Love.
B’Day produced singles including “Déjà Vu,” “Ring the Alarm,” and “Irreplaceable.” “Irreplaceable” became one of Beyoncé’s signature songs and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album’s timing is sometimes confused with the 2006 release of the film Dreamgirls, in which Beyoncé played Deena Jones. B’Day was a music release, while Dreamgirls was a separate film project that premiered later that year.
