What was Beyoncé’s debut solo single?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé’s debut solo single was “Crazy in Love.”

Released in 2003, the song features rapper Jay-Z and was produced by Rich Harrison and Beyoncé. Its prominent horn sample comes from “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)” by the Chi-Lites, giving the track its instantly recognizable opening.

“Crazy in Love” served as the lead single from Beyoncé’s debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. It reached number one in the United States and United Kingdom and became one of the defining pop and R&B singles of the early 2000s.

“Work It Out” was released earlier, in 2002, but it was recorded for the Austin Powers in Goldmember soundtrack and is generally identified as Beyoncé’s first solo single rather than her debut single from a solo album. “Baby Boy” and “Déjà Vu” followed later.
