Survivor was Destiny’s Child’s first album to top the US Billboard 200.
Released on May 1, 2001, Survivor became the group’s third studio album and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. At the time, Destiny’s Child consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
The album produced several major singles, including “Independent Women Part I,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.” “Independent Women Part I” had already become strongly associated with the film Charlie’s Angels before the album’s release, helping build anticipation for the project.
A frequent mix-up is The Writing’s on the Wall, Destiny’s Child’s 1999 album. That record was a major commercial breakthrough and contained “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name,” but Survivor was the group’s first Billboard 200 number-one album. Destiny Fulfilled, released in 2004, was the group’s final studio album during its original run.
