Joachim Trier shared Sentimental Value’s 2026 BAFTA win with producers Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar.
The trio were credited for the BAFTA-winning Film Not in the English Language award. Trier directed and co-wrote the Norwegian family drama with his longtime collaborator Eskil Vogt, while Ekerhovd and Berentsen Ottmar were among the film’s principal producers. The award therefore recognized the film’s overall achievement rather than an acting performance.
Sentimental Value centers on a Norwegian family, a filmmaker father and two daughters confronting old wounds, artistic ambition and inherited trauma. A common mix-up is naming Vogt as the award recipient because he co-wrote the screenplay, or listing only the producers. Trier is the film’s director and a credited recipient alongside Ekerhovd and Berentsen Ottmar. The film also won the Grand Prix at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
