Who scored the winning goal for Canada in the men's ice hockey final at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics?

The story behind the answer

Sidney Crosby scored Canada’s winning goal in the men’s ice hockey final at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Crosby scored in overtime against the United States at Canada Hockey Place in Vancouver. His goal gave Canada a 3–2 victory and secured the host nation’s 14th gold medal of the Games, a record total for a single Winter Olympics at that time.

The final was tied after regulation time. Zach Parise scored for the United States with 24.4 seconds remaining in the third period, but Crosby ended the contest 7 minutes 40 seconds into overtime after receiving a pass from Jarome Iginla.

The goal became known in Canada as the “Golden Goal.” Crosby captained Canada at later Olympic tournaments, while the 2010 final remains especially associated with his overtime finish.
