Who provides the speaking voice of Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars films?

Owen Wilson provides the speaking voice of Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars films.

Wilson’s performance gives McQueen a recognizable mix of confidence, impatience, humor, and vulnerability. In the first Cars film, McQueen begins as a talented but self-centered rookie who cares mainly about winning. His accidental stay in Radiator Springs gradually changes his priorities, and Wilson’s delivery helps mark that development.

Wilson returned as McQueen’s voice in Cars 2 and Cars 3. The character also appears in related Pixar shorts, games, and promotional material, although individual spin-offs can use different performers for some voices. McQueen’s voice is therefore most strongly linked with Wilson in the main feature-film series.

A common mix-up is to identify the actor with another Pixar lead. Tom Hanks voices Woody in Toy Story, John Goodman voices Sulley in Monsters, Inc., and Billy Crystal voices Mike Wazowski. None of those actors voices McQueen.
