Who provides Mater’s voice in Pixar’s Cars film series?

Larry the Cable Guy provides Mater’s voice in Pixar’s Cars film series.

Mater is a rusty tow truck from Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen’s closest friend. His comic personality, country expression, loyalty, and inventive storytelling make him one of the franchise’s most prominent characters. The character is voiced by comedian Larry the Cable Guy, whose stage name is used in the film credits and publicity.

Mater’s full name is commonly given as Tow Mater, a pun on the phrase “tow mater.” He is especially important in Cars 2, where his accidental involvement in an international espionage adventure drives much of the plot.

The voice actor’s legal name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, but the canonical credited performance is by Larry the Cable Guy. This is why answers using only Whitney can be less precise in trivia settings. Mater later became the lead of the animated short series Mater’s Tall Tales.
