David Heyman produced the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone from J.K. Rowling’s novel.
Heyman discovered a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and helped bring the project to Warner Bros. He served as producer of the first film, which was directed by Chris Columbus and released in 2001. His production role continued across the main Harry Potter film series.
A common mix-up is confusing Heyman with other major contributors. Chris Columbus directed the first two films, while Steve Kloves wrote the screenplays for most of the series. David Yates later directed four of the Harry Potter films and the Fantastic Beasts films. Heyman’s importance was behind the entire film production process rather than in directing or screenwriting. He also became a producer of the wider Wizarding World film projects.
