Who played Alice in the 2002 film Resident Evil?

The story behind the answer

Milla Jovovich played Alice in the 2002 film Resident Evil.

Alice is an original character created for the film series rather than a direct adaptation of a game protagonist. In the first movie, she awakens with amnesia at a mansion connected to an underground Umbrella facility. She and a team of commandos enter the facility after the T-virus is released and the Red Queen seals the complex.

The film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and was inspired by Capcom’s Resident Evil games. Jovovich returned as Alice in the film’s sequels, making the character the continuing central figure of the original movie continuity.

Several game characters appear across the film series, including Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Ada Wong. Their presence can lead to confusion, but Alice is not the film version of any one of those established game characters.
