What is the Japanese title of the Resident Evil video game series?
Answer
Biohazard
Answer
Biohazard
The Japanese title of the Resident Evil video game series is Biohazard.
Capcom released the first game in Japan under the name Biohazard on March 22, 1996. When the series was prepared for Western markets, the title was changed to Resident Evil because of trademark and naming concerns surrounding “Biohazard.”
The alternate title remains part of the franchise’s official identity in Japan. Japanese releases commonly use Biohazard in game titles, including Biohazard 2 and Biohazard 7: Resident Evil.
The word “Biohazard” can also describe the series’ fictional biological threats, such as viruses, parasites, and engineered organisms. It should not be confused with the separate American band Biohazard, which contributed to trademark complications around the original Western name.
