Umbrella presents itself as a multinational pharmaceutical corporation, but its secret research divisions develop bioweapons and conduct illegal experiments. The company’s work includes the Progenitor virus, the T-virus, and numerous engineered creatures.

Its activities are central to the mansion incident and the destruction of Raccoon City. Founders Ozwell E. Spencer, Edward Ashford, and James Marcus established the company, while executives and researchers such as William Birkin and Albert Wesker shaped its projects.
