Who is the Tennessee Titans running back on the Madden NFL 2001 cover?

The Tennessee Titans running back on the Madden NFL 2001 cover is Eddie George.

Released in 2000, Madden NFL 2001 marked an important change for the franchise: it was the first installment to feature an NFL player prominently instead of John Madden. George, then one of the league’s best power runners, represented the Tennessee Titans after helping the team reach Super Bowl XXXIV following the 1999 season.

The game was also the third Madden title to include an NFL player on its cover, following the earlier shared covers for Madden NFL 95 and later editions featuring stars such as Barry Sanders. A common mix-up is confusing George with other prominent Madden athletes: Shaun Alexander appeared on Madden NFL 07, while Marshall Faulk was featured on Madden NFL 2003. Madden NFL 2001 was also the first game in the series released for PlayStation 2.
