Po narrates the opening story in Kung Fu Panda.
The film begins with Po describing an imagined heroic version of himself and the Furious Five. In this stylized opening, he appears as a powerful kung-fu warrior before the story cuts to his ordinary life working in Mr. Ping’s noodle restaurant.
The contrast introduces one of the film’s central ideas: Po’s dream of becoming a kung-fu hero exists before he has the training, confidence or status associated with one. The opening also establishes the energetic visual language used for the series’ action sequences.
The narrator is Po, voiced in English by Jack Black. The sequence is not a historical account of an earlier Dragon Warrior; it is Po’s fantasy or imagined adventure, followed by the film’s actual beginning in the Valley of Peace.
