Master Shifu trains the Furious Five before Po joins their kung-fu story.
Shifu is a red panda and the senior teacher at the Jade Palace. He trained Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper, and Crane, developing them into the elite group known as the Furious Five. He later becomes Po’s teacher as well.
At first, Shifu believes Po is unsuitable for serious kung-fu training. Their relationship changes when Shifu discovers how to motivate Po and adapt his teaching methods to Po’s abilities and personality.
Master Oogway is Shifu’s teacher and spiritual mentor, not the regular instructor of the Furious Five. This distinction matters because Oogway selects Po as the Dragon Warrior, while Shifu is responsible for training him.
