Who is credited with the story of KPop Demon Hunters?

The story behind the answer

Maggie Kang is credited with the story of KPop Demon Hunters.

Kang developed the film from an original idea inspired by her Korean heritage, K-pop, mythology, and demonology. She first pitched the concept in 2018, beginning the development process that eventually led to the Netflix animated feature.

The story credit is distinct from the screenplay credits. Hannah McMechan, Danya Jimenez, Maggie Kang, and Chris Appelhans are credited on the screenplay, while Kang alone receives the story credit. Kang also co-directed the film with Appelhans.

The premise centers on Huntrix, a fictional K-pop girl group whose members lead double lives as demon hunters. Their songs and performances are connected to the supernatural defenses protecting humanity. This allowed Kang to combine the entertainment world of idol groups with Korean cultural references and a fantasy adventure structure.
