What was the first major scene animated for KPop Demon Hunters?

The story behind the answer

The first major scene animated for KPop Demon Hunters was Huntrix’s first encounter with the Saja Boys.

The sequence served as a proof of concept for the production team. It tested the character designs, action staging and visual contrast between the heroic girl group and the apparently charming rival boy band. The scene also demonstrated how performance choreography and demon-fighting could share the same visual language.

Sony Pictures Imageworks animated the film in its Vancouver and Montreal facilities. The filmmakers wanted action scenes to feel like dance-fighting, using bold graphic shapes, dynamic movement and glitter effects inspired partly by the South Korean action film The Villainess.

The scene should not be confused with the Idol Awards sequence or the climactic battle. It was animated early in production to establish how the film’s central characters would move, fight and perform together.
