Who designed the Derpy Tiger character for KPop Demon Hunters?

The story behind the answer

Radford Sechrist designed the Derpy Tiger character for KPop Demon Hunters.

Sechrist based the character on minhwa, a Korean folk-art tradition, and on his cat Yumyan. This combination helped give Derpy Tiger the deliberately expressive and humorous appearance seen in the film, while connecting the character’s design to Korean visual culture.

Sechrist is also connected to the film through his marriage to director Maggie Kang. He is known as the creator of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and he contributed character and story work to KPop Demon Hunters.

The character’s design credit is distinct from the film’s directing and music credits. Kang and Chris Appelhans directed the movie, while Marcelo Zarvos composed its orchestral score. Sechrist’s specific contribution here is the design of Derpy Tiger.
