“Your Idol” was inspired by EXO’s “Mama” and Christian hymns in KPop Demon Hunters.
The song was written by Ejae and designed as a dark, otherworldly number for Gwi-Ma and the Saja Boys. It contrasts sharply with “Soda Pop,” the group’s sweet and inviting introduction song. The change in musical tone mirrors the story’s revelation of the Saja Boys’ demonic nature.
The EXO reference places the song within recognizable K-pop history, while the hymn influence gives it a ceremonial and ominous quality. In the film, the Saja Boys perform it with Gwi-Ma as their alliance becomes more openly threatening.
This fact is sometimes confused with the folklore meaning of “Saja.” The name evokes both the jeoseung saja and the Korean word for lion, but those are character and design references, not the musical inspirations for “Your Idol.”
