Who directed the 2013 zombie romance Warm Bodies?

The story behind the answer

Jonathan Levine directed the 2013 zombie romance Warm Bodies.

The film is based on Isaac Marion’s 2010 novel of the same name. Nicholas Hoult plays R, a zombie who lives in an abandoned aircraft and begins changing after meeting Julie, played by Teresa Palmer. Their relationship forms the center of a story that mixes horror, romance, comedy, and post-apocalyptic fantasy.

Warm Bodies gives its zombies an unusual perspective: R narrates his thoughts even though he speaks very little aloud at first. The story explores gradual recovery of memory, emotion, and human behavior rather than treating the undead only as monsters.

The film’s title can be confused with the novel’s publication history because the book began as an online story before being expanded for publication. Warm Bodies was released by Summit Entertainment in February 2013. Levine later directed films including 50/50, The Night Before, and Long Shot.
