Rose McGowan’s character in Planet Terror is named Cherry, the dancer who receives a prosthetic leg.
Robert Rodriguez directed Planet Terror as one half of the 2007 double feature Grindhouse, with Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof as the other half. The film deliberately imitates the exaggerated style of exploitation and zombie cinema.
After a deadly biological agent spreads, Cherry loses a leg and later uses a modified assault rifle as a prosthesis. The deliberately outrageous image became one of the film’s most recognizable visual motifs.
Cherry Darling is not a conventional undead character. Planet Terror mixes infection horror, action, black comedy, and deliberately damaged “grindhouse” presentation, including fake trailers and stylized film wear in its original theatrical context.
