Who directed the 2004 zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead?
Answer
Edgar Wright
Answer
Edgar Wright
Edgar Wright directed the 2004 zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead.
Wright co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Pegg, who plays the title character Shaun. The film follows an electronics-shop employee whose ordinary life is disrupted by a zombie outbreak in London. Shaun attempts to protect his mother, girlfriend, and friends while heading toward the Winchester pub.
The movie combines romantic comedy, workplace comedy, and zombie-horror conventions. Its title deliberately echoes George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, and Romero’s film influenced the production. Shaun of the Dead also helped establish the recurring creative partnership among Wright, Pegg, and Nick Frost.
The film was released in the United Kingdom in April 2004. It is the first entry in Wright’s informal Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, followed by Hot Fuzz in 2007 and The World’s End in 2013. Those later films are not zombie movies, although they share major cast and creative connections.
