Who directed Resident Evil 2, the 1998 survival horror game?
Answer
Hideki Kamiya
Answer
Hideki Kamiya
Hideki Kamiya directed Resident Evil 2, the 1998 survival horror game.
Kamiya joined Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 project as director after working on the original game. The sequel expanded the first game’s mansion setting into the ruined Raccoon City, while introducing Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as its two playable leads.
The game was released for the PlayStation in January 1998 and became one of Capcom’s most successful titles. Its design used two connected scenarios, commonly called the Leon and Claire scenarios, with some events and item placements changing between them.
A common mix-up is confusing the game’s director with Shinji Mikami, who directed the original Resident Evil. Kamiya later became known for directing other Capcom projects, including Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. Resident Evil 2 was later remade and released in 2019, but the 1998 original remains the title associated with Kamiya’s direction.
