Who directed Kung Fu Panda alongside John Stevenson?

Mark Osborne directed Kung Fu Panda alongside John Stevenson. Their collaboration shaped the first film’s balance of martial-arts action, broad comedy, and emotional character development.

Osborne had previously worked in animation and directed the short film More, while Stevenson had extensive experience in storyboarding and visual development. For Kung Fu Panda, the directors helped translate Chinese martial-arts traditions into an accessible family adventure.

Jennifer Yuh Nelson later directed Kung Fu Panda 2, becoming the first woman to direct a feature film for DreamWorks Animation. Alessandro Carloni co-directed Kung Fu Panda 3, and Mike Mitchell directed Kung Fu Panda 4.

Because the franchise changed directors across its sequels, viewers sometimes attribute every Kung Fu Panda film to the original directing team. The first film specifically credits Osborne and Stevenson as co-directors.
