Who directed Elden Ring?
Answer
Hidetaka Miyazaki
Answer
Hidetaka Miyazaki
Hidetaka Miyazaki directed Elden Ring. He led the game’s creative direction at FromSoftware, including its world, narrative structure, combat philosophy, and overall design.
Miyazaki previously directed Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Those games helped define FromSoftware’s reputation for interconnected environments, demanding battles, environmental storytelling, and indirect narrative presentation.
Elden Ring differed from his earlier major projects by giving players a large open world, a mount named Torrent, and more freedom to approach challenges in different orders. The game still retained many recognizable FromSoftware conventions.
George R. R. Martin contributed the setting’s foundational mythology, but he did not direct the game. Miyazaki and the development team transformed that early lore into the finished game’s characters, locations, quests, and events.
