Who became Formula 1’s first World Drivers’ Champion in 1950?
Answer
Giuseppe Farina
Answer
Giuseppe Farina
Giuseppe Farina became Formula 1’s first World Drivers’ Champion in 1950. He won the inaugural championship driving for Alfa Romeo, which dominated the earliest season of the modern Formula One World Championship.
Farina won three of the seven championship races in 1950: the British Grand Prix, the Swiss Grand Prix, and the Italian Grand Prix. His victory at Silverstone made him the first winner of a Formula 1 World Championship race.
Farina finished the season level on points with Juan Manuel Fangio, but the championship was decided by the number of race wins. Farina had three victories, while Fangio had two. The title is sometimes confused with the first Formula 1 race winner, but Farina was both the first race winner and the first champion.
