Alain Prost recorded 51 World Championship Grand Prix victories during his Formula 1 career.
The French driver won races for Renault, McLaren, Ferrari and Williams between 1981 and 1993. His 51 victories made him Formula 1’s winningest driver at the time, a record later surpassed by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
Prost won four World Drivers’ Championships: in 1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993. His greatest rivalry was with Ayrton Senna, especially during their time as McLaren teammates in 1988 and 1989. Their contests produced two championships for McLaren and several controversial incidents.
Prost was nicknamed “The Professor” because of his analytical approach and smooth, economical driving style. He often managed races strategically rather than relying only on outright aggression. His 1993 title came with Williams before he retired from Formula 1 at the end of the season.
