Which Formula 1 driver won the 2010 World Championship to become the sport’s youngest World Champion at that time?

The story behind the answer

Sebastian Vettel won the 2010 World Championship to become Formula 1’s youngest World Champion at that time.

Vettel clinched the title at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the season. Driving for Red Bull Racing, he won the race and finished ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the championship standings.

Vettel was 23 years, 4 months and 11 days old when he became champion. His title surpassed Lewis Hamilton’s previous age record from 2008. Vettel also became the first driver to win the championship without ever leading the standings before the final race of that season.

He successfully defended the title in 2011 and went on to win four consecutive championships from 2010 through 2013. The age record was later broken by Lewis Hamilton’s teammate Max Verstappen in 2021.
