Which Toy Story film first shows Andy’s toys living in Bonnie’s room?

The story behind the answer

Toy Story 3 first shows Andy’s toys living in Bonnie’s room.

At the end of Toy Story 3, Andy gives his childhood toys to Bonnie Anderson before leaving for college. The film then shows Bonnie playing with the toys, establishing their new home and beginning their life with a different child. This handover is the emotional conclusion to Andy’s long relationship with Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other toys.

Toy Story 4 later returns to Bonnie’s room and develops the toys’ life after Andy. In that film, Bonnie creates Forky during kindergarten orientation, and Woody becomes increasingly concerned that Bonnie is no longer playing with him. However, Bonnie’s room is introduced as the toys’ new household in Toy Story 3.

A common mix-up is to associate Bonnie’s room only with Toy Story 4 because Forky’s story takes place there. Bonnie is already the toys’ owner before the fourth film begins, and the transition from Andy to Bonnie is one of Toy Story 3’s central story moments.
