Which tight end is on the cover of Madden NFL 17? Rob Gronkowski. The New England Patriots star was the game’s cover athlete when Madden NFL 17 launched in 2016.

Gronkowski’s selection followed his loss to Odell Beckham Jr. in the fan vote for Madden NFL 16. For Madden NFL 17, EA Sports chose the cover athlete directly rather than holding another public vote. The cover highlighted Gronkowski’s explosive receiving and touchdown celebrations.

Madden NFL 17 was the 27th main installment in the series and was released on August 23, 2016. It appeared on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Greg Olsen, Jimmy Graham, and Travis Kelce were prominent tight ends, but none was the official cover athlete.

A related point of confusion is that Gronkowski’s cover appearance was not his first connection to the franchise: he had been a finalist in the earlier cover vote. He also became one of the rare players associated with a Madden cover and a Super Bowl victory in the same season.
