Conan O’Brien voices Smarty Pants in Toy Story 5. The talk-show host and comedian joined the Disney and Pixar film as the voice of a new character rather than replacing one of the franchise’s longtime central toys.

Smarty Pants is an electronic potty-training toy, fitting the sequel’s broader story about traditional toys confronting children’s fascination with modern technology. O’Brien’s casting was announced in May 2025 during Disney’s Licensing Expo presentation. He joked that he initially wanted to play Woody or Buzz Lightyear, but came to regard Smarty Pants as the best role.

This character is easy to confuse with the returning Toy Story cast because the film brings back familiar voices including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Joan Cusack as Jessie and Tony Hale as Forky. Conan O’Brien’s role is different: Smarty Pants is a newcomer created for the fifth film. The movie was directed by Andrew Stanton and released theatrically in 2026.
