Andrew Stanton briefly voices Emperor Zurg in an uncredited Toy Story 5 cameo.
Stanton is best known here as a Pixar writer, director, and story contributor, but he also returns vocally to the role of Emperor Zurg. Zurg is the villainous toy character associated with Buzz Lightyear and was voiced by Stanton in Toy Story 2, making the Toy Story 5 appearance a small franchise callback.
The cameo is uncredited, so it is not presented like a standard starring cast performance. That detail can make the role easy to overlook, especially because Stanton is also the director and a co-writer of the film.
Zurg should not be confused with Mr. Pricklepants, Duke Caboom, or Combat Carl, all of whom are separate toys with different performers. The fifth film’s main conflict centers on Bonnie’s new tablet, Lilypad, but the Zurg appearance connects the sequel to the series’ earlier space-toy mythology.
