Which studio developed Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)?

The story behind the answer

Criterion Games developed Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, released in 2010. The British studio was already known for the Burnout series, making its appointment a strong clue to the game's emphasis on speed, crashes, and arcade-style police chases.

The game is set in the fictional Seacrest County, a large open world inspired by parts of California, Oregon, and Washington. Players can build careers as either racers or police officers, with each side receiving specialized equipment such as roadblocks, spike strips, radar jammers, and helicopters.

Hot Pursuit also introduced Autolog, a social system that compared friends' times and recommended competitive events. Its design deliberately moved away from the deep car customization and story focus of several preceding entries, returning to the series' classic racer-versus-cop formula.

EA DICE assisted with the game's world, while Exient Entertainment developed the Wii version. Those contributions sometimes cause confusion, but Criterion Games is the credited developer of the principal 2010 release.
