Helmet-camera
Answer
Helmet-camera
Shift 2: Unleashed added a helmet-camera view to show the driver’s head movement.
The helmet camera places the player at the driver’s viewpoint, with the helmet visible around the edges of the screen. Unlike a fixed cockpit or dashboard view, it reacts dynamically to the car’s motion and simulates how a driver’s head and vision respond during racing.
As the car approaches a corner, the camera turns and leans toward the apex, imitating a driver looking through the turn. It can also move with bumps, impacts, and acceleration, while high speed produces a blurred, tunnel-vision-like effect. A crash can jolt the viewpoint forward and temporarily distort the display.
This feature is commonly confused with the game’s ordinary in-car camera. Shift 2 retained a conventional cockpit perspective, but the helmet camera was the new, more immersive option. The game introduced it alongside night racing and an expanded version of EA’s Autolog social-racing system.
