The series was produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television for HBO. DC Studios is the Warner Bros. Discovery division responsible for developing and coordinating the new DC Universe across film and television.

Lanterns is part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Its Green Lantern characters and story are designed to exist within that shared franchise, although the series was also developed to tell a complete story of its own.

The production relationship is distinct from the earlier Greg Berlanti version of a Green Lantern series. Lanterns was redeveloped after James Gunn and Peter Safran became leaders of DC Studios, resulting in the current Earth-based detective format.
