Which sport did J.K. Rowling create for the wizarding world?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling created Quidditch for the wizarding world.

Quidditch is the broomstick sport played by Hogwarts students and professional teams in Rowling’s fiction. A match uses seven players on each side: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. Players pursue different balls, including the Quaffle, Bludgers, and the Golden Snitch.

The Golden Snitch is worth 150 points when caught and usually ends the match, although catching it does not automatically guarantee victory. This rule is a common source of confusion because the large point value makes the Seeker’s role seem decisive in every game.

Rowling has said the idea for Quidditch was influenced by frustration and disagreement, and she developed the game’s detailed rules for the books. Real-world adaptations have included modified forms played without flying. Quidditch is therefore both a fictional magical sport and a concept that inspired later recreational sports.
