Wonder Girls became the first South Korean girl group to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 with “Nobody” in 2009. The English-language version was released in the United States through an agreement involving Jonas Records and Sony Music.
“Nobody” originated as a Korean single in 2008 and was written and produced by Park Jin-young. Its retro Motown-inspired concept, synchronized choreography and repeated hook helped establish the group across Asia before their American promotion.
The song peaked at number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. Wonder Girls promoted it as an opening act on the Jonas Brothers’ 2009 North American tour. The achievement is often confused with later K-pop milestones: Girls’ Generation were the first K-pop girl group to top the Billboard 200, while Blackpink later became the first K-pop girl group to headline Coachella.
