The Shirelles recorded “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” which became a US number-one hit in 1960.
The song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin and released by Scepter Records. It was performed by Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, Addie Harris and Beverly Lee, the four members of The Shirelles.
Its success was historically important: it is widely recognized as the first song by an all-female group to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The recording helped establish girl groups as a major force in early-1960s pop.
The song is sometimes confused with later recordings by The Chiffons or The Ronettes, but those groups had different signature hits. “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” remains one of The Shirelles’ best-known songs.
