Which Smash game became the best-selling game released for the Nintendo GameCube?
Answer
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Answer
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. Melee became the best-selling game released for the Nintendo GameCube.
Released in Japan in November 2001, Melee quickly became a major system seller. It moved more than a million copies in Japan within about two months and was the first GameCube title to reach that milestone. Its fast-paced multiplayer made it especially attractive to groups of friends and helped drive demand for Nintendo’s new console.
Melee ultimately sold more than seven million copies worldwide, placing it ahead of other major GameCube releases such as Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Luigi’s Mansion. It remained the console’s top-selling game despite the GameCube’s relatively modest hardware sales.
A related distinction is that Melee was not the first game in the series, but it was the second. The original Super Smash Bros. appeared on Nintendo 64 in 1999; Melee followed with a larger roster, more stages, and substantially more content.
