Yuzuru Hanyu won the men's figure skating gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Hanyu represented Japan and became the first Asian man to win an Olympic singles figure-skating title. He led the short program with a world-record score at the time and finished first overall after the free skate.
His victory came with a combined score of 280.09 points. Canada's Patrick Chan won silver, while Denis Ten of Kazakhstan took bronze. Hanyu was 19 years old, making his achievement especially notable in a demanding event dominated by experienced skaters.
Hanyu later won a second consecutive Olympic title at PyeongChang in 2018. He was the first men's singles skater to achieve that feat since Dick Button won in 1948 and 1952.
