Which singer performs “Life Is a Highway” in Pixar’s Cars?

Rascal Flatts performs “Life Is a Highway” in Pixar’s Cars.

The country trio recorded a new version of Tom Cochrane’s 1991 song for the film’s soundtrack. Their energetic performance accompanies the road-trip sequence in which Lightning McQueen and Mater travel toward Radiator Springs. The song became strongly associated with Cars and introduced it to a new generation of listeners.

Tom Cochrane originally wrote and recorded “Life Is a Highway,” and his version was a major Canadian hit. Rascal Flatts’ recording is not the original single; it is a film-specific cover arranged for the animated road story. That distinction explains why both names may appear in discussions of the song.

The Cars soundtrack also includes original songs and score music by Randy Newman. “Our Town,” written by Newman and performed by James Taylor, is a separate track connected with the film’s quieter reflection on Radiator Springs.
