Which short story collection did J.K. Rowling publish about Hogwarts folklore and wizarding tales in 2008?

The story behind the answer

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is J.K. Rowling’s 2008 collection of wizarding tales associated with Hogwarts folklore.

The book contains five fairy tales supposedly written by the wizard Beedle the Bard. Each tale is followed by commentary attributed to Albus Dumbledore, creating a frame similar to a scholarly edition of folklore.

The collection is especially important in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Hermione receives a copy in Dumbledore’s will. The story “The Tale of the Three Brothers” explains the legend of the Deathly Hallows.

Rowling originally produced seven handwritten copies of the book, giving six to people closely connected with the Harry Potter books. The commercial edition was published in December 2008, with proceeds supporting the Children’s High Level Group, later renamed Lumos.
