Breathometer became the first Shark Tank company to receive an investment offer from all five sharks.
Breathometer developed portable breath-analysis devices designed to estimate blood alcohol concentration through a smartphone-connected system. Founder Charles Michael Yim presented the company on Shark Tank during the show’s fourth season in 2013. The pitch attracted unusual attention because every shark expressed interest.
The five sharks jointly offered $1 million for a 30 percent stake. The episode became notable not only for the size of the proposed investment but also because unanimous interest from the entire panel was exceptionally rare. The deal was later revised outside the show and did not ultimately close in its televised form.
A common mix-up is to treat the televised agreement as proof that every Shark Tank deal is completed. The program records offers made during pitches, but some agreements change or fail during due diligence after filming.
