Which screenwriting film by J.K. Rowling was released in 2016?

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was the J.K. Rowling screenwriting film released in 2016. It was Rowling’s screenwriting debut and the first film in a series set in the wider wizarding world she created.

The film is set mainly in New York in 1926 and follows magizoologist Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne. Its title comes from a fictional Hogwarts textbook that Rowling had previously published as a charity tie-in under the name Newt Scamander. The film expands that short companion-book concept into an original cinematic story.

David Yates directed the movie, while Warner Bros. distributed it. The later films are The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore. Those titles are separate films, so they should not be used as the answer when the question asks for Rowling’s 2016 screenwriting debut.
