Answer
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Answer
The Jesus and Mary Chain
The Scottish indie rock band that released the 1985 debut album Psychocandy was The Jesus and Mary Chain.
Psychocandy came out on November 18, 1985, through Blanco y Negro Records. It was the debut studio album by brothers Jim and William Reid's band, which formed in Scotland and quickly became known for colliding sweet pop melodies with harsh guitar feedback and noise. That combination made the record an important precursor to shoegaze and a major influence on alternative rock.
The album was recorded in London during March and April 1985. Its songs include “Never Understand,” “You Trip Me Up” and “Just Like Honey,” all of which were issued as singles during 1985. “Just Like Honey” later became especially recognizable for its chiming guitar sound and prominent drum pattern.
Primal Scream is an easy confusion because Bobby Gillespie briefly played drums for The Jesus and Mary Chain before focusing on his own band. The Stone Roses and The Smiths were also important British alternative acts, but neither released Psychocandy. The Jesus and Mary Chain followed it with the more subdued Darklands in 1987.
