Which indie rock band from Montreal released the 2005 debut album 'Apologies to the Queen Mary'?

The story behind the answer

The Montreal indie rock band that released the 2005 debut album Apologies to the Queen Mary was Wolf Parade.

Wolf Parade released Apologies to the Queen Mary on September 27, 2005, through Sub Pop. Although the band is associated with Montreal, much of the album was recorded at Audible Alchemy in Portland, Oregon, with additional work completed in Montreal. Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock produced most of it, while Wolf Parade self-produced three tracks.

The record's songwriting and vocals are divided mainly between keyboardist Spencer Krug and guitarist Dan Boeckner. That dual-frontman approach gives songs such as “I'll Believe in Anything,” “You Are a Runner and I Am My Father's Son” and “Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts” contrasting personalities.

The title comes from a bizarre story involving the ocean liner Queen Mary: the band reportedly broke down a ballroom door and staged a séance before being removed. The album was widely acclaimed and nominated for the 2006 Polaris Music Prize. Arcade Fire is an understandable Montreal-related distractor, but this particular debut belongs to Wolf Parade.
