Which school of witchcraft and wizardry did J.K. Rowling create for Harry Potter?

J.K. Rowling created Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for Harry Potter.

Hogwarts is the main magical school in the Harry Potter series. It is located in Scotland and is generally described as a boarding school for young witches and wizards, who usually begin their education at age eleven and study there for seven years.

The school is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Students are placed into houses by the Sorting Hat, and each house has its own history, values and common room. Harry, Ron and Hermione are all sorted into Gryffindor.

Hogwarts is fictional, but Rowling developed extensive details about its staff, lessons, traditions and grounds. Other wizarding schools appear in the wider setting, including Beauxbatons in France and Durmstrang in northern Europe. Ilvermorny is a separate school introduced in later background material.
