Which school does J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter attend as a wizard?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The fictional British wizarding school is the main setting for most of the seven Harry Potter novels.

Hogwarts is presented as a castle in Scotland, hidden from the non-magical population. Students generally begin at age eleven and study there for seven years. The school is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

Harry travels to Hogwarts by the Hogwarts Express, departing from London’s King’s Cross station. At school he studies subjects such as Potions, Transfiguration, Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts. His closest friends are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

Hogwarts is not the only wizarding school in Rowling’s world. Durmstrang and Beauxbatons appear in the novels, while Ilvermorny is described as a North American school in later Wizarding World material. Those institutions are separate from Hogwarts.
